We’re in the middle of a journey which requires a level of focus that many find hard to maintain. Focusing in on what we don’t really want to think about, talk about or deal with is precisely the material from which we pollinate new ideas. Acknowledging truths — no matter how uncomfortable they may be — is a path forward, a path from getting unstuck. We may not want to go there, we may even resist with all our might, but the longer we put off releasing what/who binds us to lower vibrations — whether it’s our own behaviors, beliefs and habits OR the relationships we enmesh ourselves in — the bigger the rectification will be, like a lighting bolt knocking you out of complacency.
That may seem intense but Scorpio is nothing if not intense. Scorpio isn’t scared to be uncomfortable, so much so that they keep secrets and often wait too long to reveal truths. But Scorpio’s lesson is to learn how to let go of control. To surrender to the process of unfoldment, whatever that is. It represents Death in the Tarot, the card of transformation — a part of you dies, you let go of something, to be reborn anew. It’s a Double Scorpio sky (November 11-13) with the New Moon going exact at 20 degrees Scorpio on the morning of the 13th. This flavor will carry into the entire Lunar cycles (28 days) which means you can utilize the energies of Scorpio to focus and commit. We’re also getting a dash of transits that have amped up the discomfort factor with our emotions. Take heed, this is a time of immense self reflection and discovery for all signs. Keep your words soft and kind, don’t allow yourself to react harshly — everyone is feeling more edgy, not just you.
These are necessary moments to hasten our inner growth. The faster we evolve the faster all of us evolve. During times like these — it’s a valuable test of your mettle, so to speak, about being here and human-ing on this planet we call home. What do you do when things get weird? Uncomfortable? Triggering? Stressful? Scary? How do you react when you’re under stress, when someone pushes your buttons, when things don’t go your way? Do you review what happened and see where you were responsible (partially or fully) for how you feel? Do you try to determine lessons learned to help you on a way forward? Or do you blame, shame, speak negatively, sulk, detach or engage in passive-aggressive behaviors?
The avoidance of feeling uncomfortable is a plague in our society. We’re not supposed to be comfortable all the time — how boring! Life requires uncomfortable challenges and conversations so we can learn and grow.
Just like in books and movies — the reason the “formula” of a story, the pacing and common themes all work so well is because it’s the same frequency of real life. Nobody wants to watch a movie where everything just works out. You may think you do but the truth is without the setbacks, miscommunications, slights, villains with agendas, and roadblocks along the way — it wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying to see it “all work out in the end.” Would it?
And sure, it doesn’t always work out in the end, and not every piece of art we consume does, either, but the point is — it’s in the struggle, the chaos — that we find our true strength, our will, our determination and see what we are made of — what is possible through out own fortitude.
This New Moon is teaching us to take the bitter with the sweet. The Moon is not loving it in Scorpio as it is her sign of fall (her least exalted spot) so if Luna is feeling it, we’re all feeling it in some way or another. When things get heavy, I remind myself that it is through the process of doing that life is made. It truly is a journey, not a destination. If every moment was a study, a review in life, a walking prayer — good, bad, ugly or indifferent — it could be easier to accept what is and keep going. Instead of wanting the world and people to change to fit your perspectives, you learn to USE these things - pain, grief, loss, anger, sadness, loneliness, self righteousness, victim-ness — whatever it is — as your fuel toward greater understanding of WHO YOU ARE.
It is only in Knowing Thyself that any one individual can expand the consciousness of the whole. We certainly help people along the way even when we don’t know ourselves, but the benefits of being able to move past your shit and let go of your shit — are exponentially increased when you focus on yourself instead of how to fix others or the outside world. That doesn’t mean don’t participate, it means — refuse to take the world into yourself. Don’t take anything personally, it’s not about you anyway. These are not original thoughts from Holli, but what I’ve come to learn through 20+ years of spiritual self study, mentorship and initiation. I feel it’s truth deep in my bones. I can feel the Light call to me. I am fortunate — even though the dark has found me plenty.
Yet, I’ve never once wanted to leave this place. There are things I do not wish to experience but whether I do personally or not, when someone else does, I do on a cellular level. We all do. It’s more than a belief — it just simply is — it doesn’t require belief. I can feel others’ pain, the depths of despair and cry for them — it’s visceral and encompassing. I’ve learned how to transmute the feelings away from my orbit and ponder it without it pervading my peace. Sure, my brain still thinks about whatever that is — a friend who’s had a tragic loss, an animal that has been abandoned, a whole country facing genocide — I weep, I feel it, I go there — but I don’t stay there. All of it penetrates but it doesn’t permeate. I am still me.
I am a sovereign Soul who is experiencing manifested life in this body at this time. It is unwise and impossible to hold the baggage of others and the world on my shoulders.
If there was ever a “perfect” time of year to dip into the world of woo — it’s during Scorpio season, although there’s never a bad time! Scorpio season offers an edge of the unknown and unseen. Ask yourself what you are afraid of in this life? Acknowledge your greatest fears and biggest dreams. Name these things and see them. Let them be on the outside of your body as you visualize them as separate entities. What are they, what symbols represent these things for you? Visualize throwing away your fears in a black hole of nothingness. Visualize your dreams as seeds, plant them in the ground in a sacred place to you, and watch them grow into a beautiful tree heavy with fruit.
Releasing fear is vital for growth but it’s important to start slowly in all practices and concepts. Read, research, learn and then discern what is speaking to you and what is not. We can’t look at the whole mountain. Start with the first few steps and follow where the trail leads you. You never know what magic you’ll find!
What is one small step you can take right now, in this moment, in your mind and heart to move something forward in you life that has been stuck? It can be anything (spiritual or otherwise) but it has to be something that has been hanging over you a little while. What do you need to get off your chest? What weight or baggage are you carrying right now that you are simply tired of holding? Now is a wonderful time to unburden yourself. Do it on paper, on a computer, through art/music/poetry/movement, in a conversation. Be mindful of how you do it, but allow yourself to find a space to tell your truth and accept it.
Every time you honestly look at yourself, without judgement or chastisement (the observer, the higher part of you that simply observes, advising as needed) there is a tiny growth spurt of awareness that allows more Light to penetrate your Being-ness.
New Moons are fertile soil, as I always say — time to plant seeds of intention! Now is an opportune time to cast wishes around the energies that Scorpio represents. What you cut away will make room for a rebirth, for new energy to come in. Wishes focused on taking action, letting go and releasing as well as passion, sexuality, and investments are favored right now. On Wednesday, November 22, the Sun enters Sagittarius. We have just over one more week in Scorpio so take advantage of this deeper dive — it only happens once a year. Do the work and get your reward when the Sun moves into fun and festive Sagittarius.
Poem for the New Moon in Scorpio
Is it me or my projection, an accurate reflection
of what is happening, with myself to my own self?
Feeling without touch, seeing without eyes
my senses open to all that is, letting it wash over me
If only for a moment time would stop for a breath
a huge inhale followed by a strong exhale
In the space between, the pause, new possibility can form
Sorting and stretching what is and what can be
Through that portal I’d travel, seeking the wisdom of sages,
on a pathway beyond a dream, seeing the lens
through which human life is seen
The stage on which we play — behind the scenes, backstage
what mechanisms are directing the actions of the players
Seeking, dreaming, asking for answers, given more than asked
Examples of our shadow, individually and collectively
exist to show us our capabilities and laden powers
Life and destruction, up and down, within and without
We write the script, play the parts, direct the play
a full production from concept to audience, cycled over and again
Embracing the sacred union of life and death,
happiness and sadness, growth and loss, old wounds, new triggers
Flowing to frozen to thawed out again
this season reminds me that difficulty is not the enemy
Make room for the unpleasant, face it, feel it
Transmutation occurs after immersion in the real
seen and unseen, feeling and vibration
It is here I surrender in the abyss of feeling, allowing the waves to come
then I swim, time to chart a course upon these waters
The fallen leaves and barren land remind us all that cycles are unending
We learn to let go just as the tree lets go of her leaves
exposed, open after a flash of bright, deep colors
Nature seems to “die” as it gets ready for dormancy
Circle of Life constantly cycling up and down around the Wheel
the Tree of Life always blooming within
The layers are pulling back, old wounds are getting healed
the wisdom infuses my psyche as understanding opens to more questions
The walls come down and in moments of clarity
the truth of existence covers me in waves of Light
Happy New Moon in Scorpio!
